Great source for soldering

I came across them quite by accident. I was looking for the bind-it-all booth. I just got one and I wanted a mini-lesson on how to use it. I am totally exhausted. I will post more to my blog about CHA as soon as I recover. I did want to tell everyone about this great soldering source. I saw her solder this little charm in no time flat. I just got their solder kit. If anyone has the DVD or book, let me know what you think of it in the comments section of this post.
Even though the soldering iron is pink (you all know how I feel about pink), it does the job. It is a lightweight soldering iron meant for crafts and not like the kind you find in the hardware store. I asked about overheating since some of the cheapies do that and you can't get the solder to flow properly. Lisa told me that is not a problem here. You just cool off the tip by wiping it on a damp piece of sponge. I like the clips that come with it. Even though I have a surface for soldering, Lisa said a piece of tile was also good. I have pieces of tile for when I use my tack iron. Good there, too. I like the non-toxic flux and lead-free solder. What I liked about this booth was that they have an instructional DVD on how to solder. This is great for us visual learners who cannot get to a workshop or need a reminder on how it's done after we have forgotten what was taught at a workshop. I flipped through their book and there were a lot of ideas and techniques in there.
I loved Sally Jean's book and have tried soldering several times in the past. Sometimes successful and sometimes not. I will give it another go with this kit. If you get the kit, let me know how it works out for you. Email me privately.

thanks for posting this, my (17 yr old) daughter has wanted to start making charms and stuff, this sounds like a great kit for her to start. It is too bad that it is pink.

You know it is so interesting to hear what this convention is like. It is so refreshing to see that the crafting world is becoming infiltrated by young, hip people doing cool stuff.

I bought this book 2 months ago and it is the best book on learning how to solder. I also had Sally Jeans but this one has alot more instructions in it. I have made several necklaces and love to solder now.
