Copper Sheet Give-Away

I cut up some 10mil copper sheet that I had so I could do a bunch at one time. It is kind of a production for me to do it. I have to set up the Jax in one container and a bucket of water in another container. I have to watch it so I get the colors I want. So, I did a bunch at once - in addition to the tons of little pieces I had for the copper book necklace class. Some of the sheets turned a cool blue and some a darker shade of red. It got black only if I kept it in too long.
BTW, make sure you don't handle the copper sheet too much prior to putting it into the Jax. I was trying to straighten out the pieces - it came on a roll. Some of the pieces have a clear impression of my fingerprints - from the oil on my fingers. It is kinda cool actually. The pieces are appox. 5-6" squares.
The 10 mil copper sheet is courtesy of basiccopper.com. http://basiccopper.com/
If you are doing something small or would like to just play with copper sheet, Basic Copper sells a sampler pack and scrap pack so you can try it out. I found that the scrap pack has some good sized pieces and I can make a lot of jewelry and small embellishments with it.
If you are not familiar with copper sheet, then this article might help. Notice who's the author. ME! ME! ME! 10 mil is approx 30 gauge. I had to do that conversion as well. I am used to gauge from working with wire.
Give-away details:
Post a comment to this post.
You have until Sunday nite to do it. I will pick a winner on Monday after I recover from CHA.
I would like to know what you do with your copper or what you would like to do.
Come back after Monday to see if you are a winner.
I use the Random number thingie to get a winner, BTW
Good luck!
Thanks, Basic Copper!

Have fun at the convention. Have you ever tried to leave a part of the copper bare and patina the rest? Is it possible to put a swatch of vaseline on the metal, patina the metal and then wash off the vaseline? Do you think paper glued on would act as a resist?

I wish I were attending but look forward to seeing it through your eyes. Have a great time and I am always interested in trying a new technique!

Can you use it for jewelry? Is it thick enough to serve as the base? So much to learn. I will have to keep up with this post to see all the other comments. Loved Sandys on vaseline!

I have been wanting to try using metal in my crafts for a while now. Just haven't had the nerve yet. Thanks for the chance to win, and push me outside my box.

The look of these copper sheets are cool! I have only used pieces of copper and other metals on smaller work because I like how a piece of metal can totally changes the look of a piece your working on. It adds texture and character to art work.

I've used copper in the past on inchies. I've punched out little shapes and glued them on. I also use copper in charms I have made and then use the charms to decorate books, quilts, etc...

I would like to make a pendant of hammered copper. I would transfer a vintage photo to clay and set it on the copper. I would add some old interesting washers or small nuts. Since I have never done any of the above winning this would give mew the chance to try it all out.

I've only done a little bit of copper work to embellish handmade book covers. It would be great to use in jewelry making. Thanks for sharing the links, they have some great stuff. x0x Annie P

The last time I used copper, I started with 2 X 2 pieces and placed each on top of a textured template and rubbed it to get a design. Then I cut and used part of it for the background for some inchies and some for the 3X3 pages I was making for another swap. Part of it that had not been rubbed over the template, I colored with alcohol inks and then I cut into the heart shape I wanted. I bent the hearts by hand to get more texture, a rippled effect. I glued that down to the textured part. I also put colored staples into it to help make variation in the metals. The more I worked on the copper, the harder it became, so with a little more hammering on it, I am sure I could have also used it for jewelry. Thanks for being our eyes at the event.

Your copper book necklaces are so crafty looking. You always come up with so many cool ideas. Of course, you know I'm a copper freak, so this is right up my alley.

Good luck at the show, it sounds like you are having a great time. The make and take that you did with Tim is beuatiful. I think it would be neat to emboss on the copper sheets and then add small pieces to ATC's and tags. Maybe with sanding around the edges, you could use it for a mini book cover????

I have always wanted to try making some metal jewelry but have not taken the plunge yet. It's on my list along with a hundred other things.

I love metal bits in mixed media, so I think I would cut the copper into random shapes and use on ATCs. I'd also like to experiment with them for backgrounds for inchies or other miniatures. Thanks for your generosity!

I love the versatility of copper and the rich colors it can be. For whatever reason, copper and pewter excite me more than gold and silver. I learn so much from you - thanks for your generosity of spirit!
