This Week's Give-away

SuperBrush was good enough to send me these sample swabs for my blog give-away. I love these things. They are very durable, if you remember to wash them. One of my rants was about how bad I was about washing out my brushes. They get all hard and crusty by the time I get around to them. These are great. They don't get the little fibers like the Qtips. I like that they are a sturdy foam. They come in different shapes. You can use these rectangle ones for all sorts of interesting designs on something.

So, what you have to do is comment about these swabs. Tell me what you might use them for in your artwork. You have until Sunday to comment. I will use the random generator thingie to pick a winner. Comment as many times as you like. I will not be home until Sunday from my trip to LA for the Dremel infomercial. Will most likely pick a winner on Monday am. Come back then to see if you are the winner.

Here is the website for the swabs: http://swab-its.com/

I currently use eyeshadow sponges.
These sound great. uses: 1-it can be used as a dabber over small stencils, where you need something small.2- age edges on ATC's or cards. This is at least 2 ways I would use them.

These look very interesting! Like Q-tips without fuzzies, as you said. Would be great for applying chalks and smoothing out oil pastels. Would love to have these!

These look very interesting, Belinda. I would want to roll them at varying pressures to create a background with acrylic or inks. I also think you could use the ends to make slightly-imperfect (on purpose) circles.

Hope I win!

These look like great little tools! Adding details to smaller pieces, spreading glue, or painting with them would be wonderful uses for them.

You know, these would be a great alternative to paper stumps for blending water soluble oil pastels and also blending minerals spirits and colored pencils. I'll have to get some to give it a try. Thanks!

I would use these swabs for coloring with chalk, distressing on edges, painting and getting into corners.

Ooh, the swabs (G). I order similar swabs from Dharma when I order their fiber reactive dyes. I mix small amounts of the dye with alcohol for homemade alcohol inks. I would use the swabs in any way I'd use a similar size paintbrush. The quantity would allow me to continue working w/o stopping to wash brushes until my work session was over. Just drop the used swap into a jar of water to keep it wet until I'm ready to wash them all. I crave those swabs, Belinda!

I think that they would be great to use with chalks, and to ink in the little places on stamps. I love stamping and then coloring my images with pencils and gamsol. But sometimes I like the look of inking the stamped images. THese sponges would be great for that.
I hope i win!!

The swabs could be used to rub out color when painting in order to show the layer beneath.
They probably have a million uses!

I would use these for applying chalks. And if I had them, I'm sure I would find lots of other uses for them too.

My current favorite medium is oil pastels. I now saturate q-tips with turpenol, but they quickly wear away, or the tip breaks. This looks like a viable alternative, which would also probably save turpenol.

I can also see adding distress or other dye inks to them to get into the edges of an altered book, something sponges don't do well, and q-tips won't do at all.

Have a great LA trip and a safe flight home.

These look fantastic! My foam brushes go stiff if I don't wash them right away or fall apart when I do. Felt for dabbing alcohol inks leaves little threads in the work. These would be great for moving inks, making patterns, lifting paste in paste papers -- even cleaning the little dusty spots on my harp!

Those look pretty handy! I think the girls have about covered a good number of uses...I think they would be great for adding glue in tight places and for dry-brushing.

I have also used eyeshadow sponges, but found they disintegrated fairly easily after a few uses. It will be interesting to see if these are more durable. I have used the sponges with inks and paints to edge inchies, atcs, etc. by running it along the edge of the cardstock or paper.

I love new tools. Especially something like this. I'd be interested in using for painting, and as a stamping tool to leave certain shaped impressions. Great that it doesn't fuzz up ! Thanks for posting about all the new stuff you find.

I've never seen these before! I use make-up foam swaps, but they break down really quickly - these swabs could replace them....maybe I'd even try them on my own face!
