Tissue paper texture

Can you believe that this is tissue paper and paint? Click on the pict and you will get a more detailed view. I am doing the Raw Art 31 Day Project. I have been groovin on needle felting, paper fabric, using my sewing machine, and doing backgrounds. When don't I do backgrounds? This is what I do. I love backgrounds and texture. I am going to do a few pieces with this background. I have some new electronic parts that are looking for a permanent home.

Okay, to do this, you will need freezer paper, tissue paper, liquid glue, water, cheap brush, container, and acrylic paints or fluid acrylics.

Tape down your sheet of freezer paper to a plastic tarp or whatever so it will stay flat. Create a glue wash of water and glue. I use Sobo - 3/4 glue to 1/4 water.

Tear off pieces of tissue paper and crumble. Uncrumble and crumble again. You can also use thin pieces of Japanese paper. I also used some really thin grid paper that I found at a store that is now out of business. You can substitute the white grid stuff they use for embroidery. They sell it by the roll at any fabric store.

Use the cheap brush and put down a generous layer of glue wash on the shiny side of the freezer paper. Put down pieces of tissue paper on the freezer paper and put a layer of glue wash on top. Let it overlap. Let it be crumbly. Repeat until you cover the entire sheet of freezer paper. You can put the grid stuff on top or even some punchinella pieces/scraps. Cheesecloth or some other thin textured stuff would also work. Put on a several layers if you want to have a really textured background. Let dry completely. Wash out the cheap brush or it will be all gunked up when dried.

Once dried, get out another cheap brush and acrylic paints or fluid acrylics. I used nickel azo gold fluid acrylics, interference oxide green fluid acrylics, transparent oxide red fluid acrylics, black acrylic, iridescent gold, iridescent silver, and iridescent copper. I just randomly spread the paint on the textured surface. I dry brushed some of the iridescent colors on to get a contrasting effect. Let dry between colors. Final layer was a light swiping of black paint across the tops of the texture.

Let dry completely before peeling it off of the freezer paper or parts of the backside will come up and you will have a nice hole in your textured background.

Comments welcome.
