Quilt Sample

The top sample is the one I did first. I thought that the ochre color was too dark for the background. So, I switched it. The only thing is that the light green fabric is tonal with it changing colors between green, yellow, and an orange tone. Should my background be one solid, light color? I am groovin on the stars itself and the lattice (light blue color). Let me know what you think.
The bottom one will be the one I will do. I might have to change the background to one solid color.

Belinda, you have been tagged.

The tagging thing is this...you post 7 random facts/habits about yourself to your blog or myspace then you choose another 7 people to get tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave them a comment/or email them to tell them they have been tagged and to read your blog.

have fun!

Love your blog!

Way to go Belinda! Watch out, quilting is so addictive. Very nice color scheme--be sure to post again after it is sewn!

Unfortunately I could not take the class with you but will be following your progress and comments with a lot of interest. Hopefully I can take the next one.
I really like your second sample, specially the top(green) portion.

As a quilter from waaaay back, it's fun to watch a new quilter get started. Of course, you have wealth of art skills and talent to draw upon in this new venture; learning the sewing skills just takes patience and practice.

As for your samples, I would agree that the ochre background is far too dominating to go with the other fabrics, and that the second set is more successful. You're wondering if you need to swap out the multi-colored background for a single color one. IMHO, you don't need to, as long as the fabric all reads as pretty much the same value (i.e. light) and gives enough contrast with the neighboring stars. The subtle color changes in the background will make your blocks more interesting as long as the distribution of the colors is pleasingly placed over the whole quilt. But whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be lovely!

I like the 2nd sample. I am just
learning too. I did a wall hanging
using the paper foundation method.
Really liked it. It's fun to try
new things. Keep up the good work. You are very talented.
